BBC Children in Need
Funding: Grants range from a few hundred pounds to a maximum of £100,000
Funder: The BBC
What projects does it support? Projects which seek to benefit children under 18 years with mental, physical or sensory disabilities, children with behavioural or psychological disorders, children living in poverty or deprivation, and children suffering from illness, distress, abuse or neglect.
Deadline There are two application deadlines per year, 30 March and 30 November.

Esmée Fairbairn Foundation
Funding: Average grant size of £50,000
Funder: The Esmée Fairbairn Foundation
What projects does it support? Registered charities or non-profits who propose work that will benefit the UK’s cultural life, education, the natural environment or enable people who are disadvantaged to participate more fully in society.

Hilton in the Community
Funding: Between £1,000 and £50,000
Funder: The Hilton Foundation
What projects does it support? Grants are awarded for specific projects which support the education and health of disadvantaged young people under the age of 25. Education covers training, educational equipment, activity-based learning, sports equipment and transport. Health covers activity-based holidays, awareness and prevention campaigns.

Ernest Cook Trust
Funding: Grants between £100 and £50,000
Funder: The Ernest Cook Trust
What projects does it support? Projects must be clearly educational. The Trust is particularly interested in applications that educate young people about the environment and the countryside, the wide spectrum of the arts, crafts and architecture, and literacy and numeracy.

Youth Music
Funding: Between £5,000 and £30,000
Funder: The National Lottery
What projects does it support? Funding given to organisations providing activities that involve training and development and structured music-making activities which are planned to advance children and young people’s music skills. Two such schemes are:
1) Make It Sound encourages children and young people aged 5-18 to make music, especially those who would otherwise lack the chance to take part.
2) Vocalise! encourages opportunities for children and young people to sing.

First Light Movies
Funder: The National Lottery
What projects does it support? First Light Movies has three grant schemes:
1) What’s the Big Idea? Award gives funding for script development projects that team young people with script professionals. The maximum grant is £3,000 and there is a 10% in-kind match funding requirement;
2) Pilot Award gives funding for one short film of up to five minutes in duration. The maximum grant is £5,000 and there is a 20% in-kind match funding requirement; and
3) Studio Award gives funding for between two and four films of up to 10 minutes in duration. The maximum grant is £30,000 and there is a match funding requirement of 40%. It’s also necessary to have a track record of filmmaking with young people.
Deadline Funding is allocated on a yearly basis.

Young Roots
Funding: Between £3,000 and £25,000
Funder: The Heritage Lottery Fund
What projects does it support? Young Roots will consider funding projects that:
1) involve young people aged between 13 and 20 (up to 25 for young people with special needs);
2) are linked to the varied heritage of the UK;
3) will be delivered through a partnership with at least one heritage partner, e.g. a museum or local wildlife trust;
4) will increase opportunities for young people to learn about heritage, promote involvement in heritage for a wide range of young people, especially those not previously involved in heritage, and promote inclusion;
5) will last up to 18 months.
Deadline Twice a year on 1st April and 1st September.

Dulverton Trust
Funding: Minor grants with a maximum of £3,000, major grants between £5,000 and £25,000
Funder: The Dulverton Trust
What projects does it support? Funds the activities of registered charities working in 8 major areas with priority given to Youth and Education, specifically aiding disadvantaged youth.
Deadline Applications are accepted at any time while decisions are made in February, May, July and October.

Charles Hayward Foundation
Funding: Up to £5,000 for charities with an annual turnover of less than £250,000; for other programmes grant sizes are typically from £10,000 to £25,000 for one-off grants

What projects does it support? Foundation funds voluntary and charitable organisations throughout the UK, mostly for capital projects.

Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales
Funding: Most grants are for one year, averaging £5,500 for local or regional projects and £20,000 for national projects
Funder: Lloyds TSB
What projects does it support? Grants to charities to improve the quality of life for people in local communities, particularly to support charities working at grassroots level. It focuses on three kinds of activity: family support; challenging disadvantage and discrimination; and helping to make the voluntary sector more effective.
Deadline Applications can be made at any time and are approved quarterly.

Sport Relief
Funding: Grants are available up to £10,000
Funder: Comic Relief
What projects does it support? Money raised on behalf of Sport Relief is being distributed in two ways:
1) The Community Foundation Network is distributing Sport Relief grants to projects that use sport to build the confidence and self esteem of people who have major difficulties in their lives. Other projects will give people who would otherwise miss out on the chance to take part in sport. Grants are available up to £10,000.
2) UnLtd is distributing Sport Relief grants to young people who use sport to bring people together in their local area to enhance community relations and reduce conflict where they live. Grants of up to £5,000 are being awarded by UnLtd.

Red Nose Day Programmes
Funding: There are two categories of awards: those under £5,000 and those over £5,000
Funder: Comic Relief
What projects does it support? Funds work with those aged 11 to 21 in three key areas: young people with mental health problems, young people with alcohol problems and young people abused through prostitution and trafficking.
Deadline No deadline for grants under £5,000, applications can be made on a rolling basis. Two deadlines per year for grants over £5,000

Community Cash Awards
Funding: Up to £5,000
Funder: The Prince’s Trust
What projects does it support? Young people who wish to set up a project that will benefit their community, such as a new basketball court, a music studio, a youth club, sex education workshops in schools, a youth advisory board or maybe a local magazine.
Deadline Applications are accepted at any time.

What projects does it support? Research into children’s diseases, small charities helping disabled children, and charities which encourage leadership qualities in young people.

What projects does it support? Grants are awarded for inter-faith work to promote understanding and cooperation, particularly work that involves young people in planning, running and evaluating projects, and which promotes equal opportunities.
